The TreeStation is a Society for the Benefit of the Community, and we have developed comprehensive Ethical and Environmental Policies, which are now available on our website. We are also developing a policy and strategy around what we mean by community benefit, and how we hope to achieve it. This is work in progress, but in the mean time we thought we would share with you what we have done so far.
– hosting several Carbon Literacy tours, Ecostreets visits, and school visits helping to educate people about how to reduce carbon emissions
– ongoing discussions with other potential social enterprises and projects, for example about Biochar production, fungal cultivation, and local growing projects, about how we can work together
– providing slabwood, sawdust and woodchip for allotment sites and projects, including the HEAP, Wild Peak Housing Co-operative, and MORFF.
– prioritising trading with other social enterprises, such as Debdale Ecocentre, Hulme Community Garden Centre, Unicorn Grocery, Glebelands Market Garden, Start in Salford, EMERGE Recycling
– promoting co-operation, through buddying other co-op start ups and hosting various visits for co-ops and co-op advisers
