ROLE CURRENTLY FILLED – Firewood Processor & Yard Operative
We’re looking for someone with enthusiasm for working with wood & helping us to produce excellent quality firewood to supply to customers all across Greater Manchester. A background in similar work experience would be advantageous, but training will be given. The right candidate will be highly motivated and able to work to an extremely high standard of both safety and quality. They must be eager, enthusiastic and willing to work as part of a team and take pride in their work. The candidate must ensure that Health and Safety regulations are followed at all times and should be familiar with safe manual handling techniques. It would be beneficial if the selected candidate had a forklift driving certificate, but it is not essential. A driving license would also be useful, as there may be a need for this person to undertake deliveries.
Also, there will be opportunities for involvement in other areas of a diverse wood-focused social enterprise business, including arboriculture, woodland management, landscaping and carpentry. Familiarity with and/or genuine interest in the TreeStation project and it’s ethos is essential, as is a high level of motivation and enthusiasm for working in a diverse and varied environment. Applicants will ideally demonstrate a range of practical skills and abilities around physical tasks and other organisational tasks.
Day to day tasks for the suitable candidate may include, but are not restricted to:
- Processing firewood logs into smaller pieces for onward sale to customers, transferring into cages.
- Bagging up firewood and kindling.
- Making sure there is enough firewood for deliveries, and creating more back-stock when demand is high.
- Delivering firewood to customers in and around the Greater Manchester area.
- Keeping the firewood processing machine working and reporting issues.
- Likelihood of getting involved with other areas of the yard, such as sawn-timber stacking and sorting, woodchip sorting and organising of timber stacks.
- Keeping the yard, in general, tidy and well stocked.
The TreeStation is a social enterprise and an Arboricultural Association Approved Contractor. We have a dedicated team of treeworkers and a wide range of clients in the Greater Manchester area. ROLE CURRENTLY FILLED – Landscaping and Gardening Worker
We are looking for part-time workers who have some experience of landscape gardening work and who would be willing to join the TreeStation Team in a flexible post – hours and days would be based on the work we have booked in, so wouldn’t always be guaranteed. However, if on the days where no landscaping work was arranged you wanted to work some hours in the Yard, helping bag up firewood or tidying the timber stacks, then this could be looked at, too.
Ideally, we’d like someone with solid experience (not necessarily qualifications, but this would be advantageous) of landscape and/or gardening work, with a strong work ethic and who is willing to be flexible as to their work schedule. To have practical knowledge of construction with timber materials, installing paving, tree planting and lawn maintenance would be very beneficial.
